Simon Emmerson's been on plenty of musical adventures in his life - jazz guitarist with Weekend and Working Week; producer of Baaba Maal; unofficial mayor of The Imagined Village. But his stewardship of the Afro Celt Sound System is surely his enduring legacy, that remarkable union of the Celtic world and West Africa, where cutting-edge digitalism meets old-as-the-hills folk traditions. No strangers to the WOMAD stage, the collective's sound has resonated the world over, with particularly handsome success coming Stateside. In advance of their new release, a career-sweeping retrospective that hoovers up all their highpoints (of which there have been many), today's performance marks their first live outing in a good long while. Expect an exuberant and exhilarating show that peels back the years and sends waves of euphoria crashing over the assembled masses. The world's definitely a smaller place when the Afro Celt Sound System is within earshot.
