Ipercussonici Biography

The adventurous new sound of Sicily
It's an indication of the elasticity of Ipercussonici's sound that they've graced the stages at dance clubs, rock concerts and world music gatherings such as ours. Hailing from the fascinating and musically complex island of Sicily, the adventurous sound of this collective revels in its variety - there's the thrust of trance, the drama of rock, the sonic experimentation of electronica and the depth and gravity of folk traditions. All the while, though, this is clearly music from a particular place, their undeniably 21st-century sound still leaving their musical roots exposed. Nowhere is this dualism more evident than in their enthusiastic adoption of the electrified mouth harp, an age-old instrument plugged into the mains to produce an eerily futuristic sound. And, as their name suggests, there's plenty of percussion in the mix too, a fact that no doubt eased the passage of their extended travels and collaborations in West Africa. Avanti!
