Ripton Lindsay Biography

“Music gives us a sense of identity, purpose and time. It's important to remain true to who you are and what you do.”
Ripton Lindsay.

Choreographer, dancer and dance tutor, lyricist, MC, DJ, poet and writer...
Ripton Lindsay was born in Jamaica, where he grew up immersed in Jamaican music and dance. Drawing on many traditional styles, he began to develop his own distinctive approach, experimenting with both traditional and contemporary dance, soon incorporating hip hop and reggae into his mix. His fluid moves and generous teaching style proved hard to resist and he soon became a much sought after dance tutor and performer. He formed his own dance troupe " Nkiru Cultural Dance Troupe' whom he choreographed and performed with for nine years, before leaving Jamaica and travelling to the UK. Before long he was adding a whole new raft of dance styles to his repertoire including jazz and 'merengue'. He quickly became an established contemporary dance tutor working in schools and colleges, with youth groups and community projects. He is one of the few choreographer/tutors able to perform and teach traditional Caribbean Dances.

Over the years Ripton has worked with some of the top names including Africa Bambaata (Zulu Nation) and DJ Babu of Dilated. His work has included choreographed pieces for film and MTV and The Fugees. More recently he has been the exclusive MC for DJ/Producer Mr Benn and Massive Attack, Daddy G and is part of the Bristol HI-Fi Family consisting Daddy G, Queen Bee and Mr Benn and has performed at WOMAD Festivals UK, Glastonbury Festival and The Big Chill.
