I will not be boycotting Womad.

That link takes yo to this thread ss

oh! Sorry! Just seen that!

So Shell are sponsoring WOMAD NZ and to be honest I (Del) don't really have a problem with that.
The money they will give WOMAD will help them support artist and their cultures from around the world including those from country's Shell has damaged in the past.
Shell may be a big bad oil company but it is also doing research into renewable energies which is a very good thing as far as I am concerned and hopefully WOMAD will make sure they are promoting there green credentials at WOMAD NZ.
I don't like the world's reliance on oil and I wish we could stop production today but that is impossible as the world doesn't have the infrastructure to survive without it. If Shell want to show the world that they are trying to be greener then take their money and put on a great show.
As for people ranting about the injustice of a delete posts, I would like to point out this thread has not been deleted so feel free to post here.

thanks for the link SS
Like to picture of the WOMAD sign on the water

Interesting take on that Del, I sincerely hope that you are right.
Would be good to hear from Womad though.

Womad have responded on the Womad New Zealand page Purpledawn and I have copied it to the Womad UK page. I ask again, why does Womad UK and Womad Sicily not require sponsorship? Where does that money come from? I had assumed naively that Womad makes a tremendous amount of money out of the festivals and then ploughs that money back into the festivals?
I will not be boycotting Womad, I love it too much, but it still feels a little dirty now that I know and I just wish that if it possible they could find alternative sponsorship.
I don't like the world's dependency on oil either, but fact is . . . we are . . . and I'll be driving my car to Womad along with the rest . . . it's not the oil side of it that bothers me . . . it's the killing in the name of! x
