  Why? I have just seen this post on Facebook from Tril Lion Branson:
  "i know it's a touchy subject with musicians, but WOMAD having SHELL OIL as a main sponsor is disgusting. have you been living under a rock WOMAD?
  you have 16 acts from Nigeria on the bill - yet you main sponsor SHELL, has turned Nigeria into the most poluted country in the world. not only that, they gave the order to TORTURE & EXECUTE activists who stood in the way of the big oil theft...SHAME!"

  I totally agree. What on earth is going on? Shame on you Womad!!!

  Thanks for the link SS. I'll post it, but I don't think it's going to satisfy people that Womad simply say yes they are sponsored by Shell. End of! I understand they need sponsorship or the festival could not go ahead. But surely Womad could be sponored by somebody more appropriate!? I'm surprised Nigerian acts agree to perform given who's money they are taking! What people want is for Womad to acknowledge the attrocities caused by Shell in the third world and to justify WHY they take sponsorship from them.
  I'm surprised to read that they've been sponsoring since 2003 and this is only just coming up! x
