  i was very surprised to hear that womad had worked with a company like shell, given peter gabriel's work in defending human rights. please think more carefully about who you partner with next time womad. solidarity with the people of rossport!

  Shell have desecrated vast areas an communities in Nigeria, sabotage notwithstanding - the response from WOMAD is just part of the Shell greenwashing.

  Just because drilling for oil in the Arctic is 'legal' is it right? Shell have a dire response program in the event of an accident or spill - but of course there won't be one!

  Look at the bigger picture, the very notion of an oil company is a crime against the planet, taking without giving back. I use my car minimally and wish we all had better transport alternatives. But Womad HAS alternatives to using Shell. The very concept of a company like Shell sponsoring a festival like Womad is so incongruous it's mind boggling.

  Yes. Are Shell the only ones who WOMAD courted for sponsorship ? I sincerely doubt it. The bottom line is that Shell offered the most money and Womad decided that was enough.

  Or show me how I'm wrong. Show me that some other company offered more and Womad said "Nah - we like what Shell stands for, we're gonna go with them"

  sorry we don't work for WOMAD or Shell so we don't know what other offers they got if any.

  What we are sure of is that WOMAD didn't take the decision lightly and as they say in their statement they are reviewing the situation to take into account peoples feelings

  We may not work for Womad or Shell Cal (or is it Del?), but we are the punters who have a variety of festivals to buy tickets from. If it comes to choosing a more ethical one over Womad, I any many others would make that decision. I am pleased to hear that hopefully Womad will take this into consideration when choosing sponsors in future.

  I agree with Purple on this Cal - who you work for is irrelevant, what you KNOW is important and what you know is that Shell and Womad are strange bedfellows.

  I hope Womad do consider a more ethical sponsor in the future and not just grab the biggest cash offer.

  I am well aware it is a business, but like I said before, not everything has a monetary value and somethings are more important than profit..... imho.
