Hey peeps,
After my recent devastation at learning I can't go to the Africa Express cos my mum can't have the kids I've been looking at gigs coming up locally n I have a choice of the above. All playing at a local teeny tiny venue in Cambridge, down the road . . . what would you do?? And don't say do all 3 cos I only get one night out a month! xxx

we would suggest you spend a night with the faeries, but we are a bit bias ;o)
although they are at there best when they have a brass section with them so if they don't them may be save them from another time

I thought you might say that C n D :) This is such a teeny tiny little venue that I doubt they'll have a brass section with them.
I saw Krar Collective at BBC Radio 3 stage 2010 and I did like them a lot, but they are very chilled out so it just depends on whether that's the kind of evening we want really.
Dub Colossus . . . I'll be honest . . . I just don't get it? Everyone is raving about them and on paper they look as though I should absolutely love them, but everything I've ever seen or listened to of theirs I've just not been that blown over. I think I may even have seen them in 2009 and just not remember that much!
And the Peatbog's. Initially decided I wasn't bothered about them last year, but then C n D made me rue the day I was born for even saying it!! So I had another look n decided I would go and see them. Unfortunately time wise they were on at a bad hour for me kids wise (like a lot of stuff I wanted to see!) and I didn't get to see them.

Hi YM. If it was me, I would go for the Peatbogs.
I enjoyed Dub Colossus at Womad a few years ago and then really liked one particular track by them but having listened to more of their stuff I was not as impressed.

You get some good stuff down your way! Not like round here
I'd go to Dub Colossus if it was me. I like the Peatbogs but they often seem to be touring round the UK (even round here) so there are lots of opportunities to see 'em. Saw Krar at Musicport and they're good too but I felt they were a bit 'samey' after a while. DC are one of my favourite Womad bands - really excellent, imho both on cd and, especially, live.

I'd be happy if any of them would come up here! However I'd prefer the Peatbogs, but that's partly because I like bagpipes

Not seen Krar but out of the others that I have seen I would go for Dub Colossus and their new album is all very nice cover versions.

I was just wondering whether to go and see Krar in Bury St Edmunds, I'm going to check them out, but your comment MacG that they're a bit samey has put me off a bit.....
ps was that musicport this year?

It would have to the Faeries for me- went to their workshop and their performance at Womad and would love to see them again. Enjoyed the Krar Collective a couple of years ago but not quite enough to pay to see them again . Dub Colussus are one of the very few bands that I have seen at Womad and have not really enjoyed, though they were worth seeing for Samuel Yirga. But at the end of the day its down to personal taste - these are 3 very, very different bands. You can't really compare them.

Don't let me put you off any of 'em WD. They're all good. I think it was last year the the Krar Collective were on at Musicport - they're deffo worth seeing - it's only that if I had to choose between them and Dub Colossus, I'd choose DC.
