time to dig deep for a cornucopia of suggestions for 2012, lets give a full rainbow nation of music, dance ideas to the wonderful womad folks
some different dance companies from the Uk
As its the 30th WOMAD my list includes some all time faves amongst others - many of whom have now gone on to get the success their talent desrves - Souad Massi, Tinariwen, Amadou and Miriam, Ba Cissoko, Gurrumul, JuJu, Manu Chau, Po Girl, Salif Keita, Yasmin Levy
Hot Club of Cowtown, Mama Rosin, Belle and Sebastian, Paul Simon, Anais Mitchell, Cypress Hill, Che Sudaka, Laura Marling, Massive Attack, Faithless, Rupa and the April Fishes. More later!
I'll always accept an opportunity to plug a bit more reggae, and it would be appropriate to invite one of the elder statesmen, Burning Spear.
Looking back to 1982 and Shepton Mallet and all that, could we see a return invitation to the likes of Talisman and Black Roots, who have both reformed in recent times, the Drummers of Burundi again (to add some of their much-needed dance routines), or of course PG?
We will definitely avail ourselves of Earlybird tickets next time around what with the absence of Glasto - a sell-out would be unthinkable until we have our tickets ;-)
Now that we've had Gogol Bordello....what about The Pogues?
and Seasick Steve.
Boabab or Neil Young ,Sufjan Stevens or Bonnie Prince Billy. There is not a
glut of Stella African musicians so they are going to have to diversify, when they
brought in the likes of Cornershop or Faithless.ideas please
oooh the pogues, or back to the planet or the levellers.......
And Andy Kershaw
I'd definitely go for Baobab and Burning Spear. Also would love to experience the Drummers of Burundi - the stories make them sound so brilliant. Lets make more magic stories!!
