Hi All - just thought i'd add my 2 pennies worth!
I am really sad at all this negative-ness post-Womad this year!
All of the moaning about people in groups, those who are/are not dancing/sitting, solo/large groups...etc etc surely its not necessary!?
I loved Womad the first time i came 4 years ago BECAUSE of all this. Because you can enjoy music the way that YOU want to enjoy it. Whether that be lying down chillaxing, or up and dancing energetically! Surely we have all paid good money to be there, so we should all be left to our own devices to enjoy the atmosphere and weekend the way we want to?
Being at a festival shouldn't all be about being able to see the stage and the acts in a clear way? Surely it should be about absorbing everything around you and just letting go for a few days?
And as for the 'weed' issues?!?! I for one am not a weed smoker, never have been, but if that's the way that some people decide they want to chill out....surely its just as bad as the people getting rat arsed on booze every day? And they don't get penalised! So can't we all just think about the things we enjoyed, the new bands we discovered, whilst looking forward to the 30th anniversary next year!
I, for one, say excellent festival and I can't wait for the next one!

listen, people arent just making things up. Instead of being all "hey lets stop all the negativeness"... maybe womad should look at why people have felt let down for their various reason
On the subject of weed. Not on. Lighting up right beside children and babies is completely out of order (if you want to do it, walk about in a little sealed balloon of your own fog) I do feel sorry for people who need chemical alteration to appreciate something, considering that drug taking is most probably offensive to a lot off the spiritual singers performing.

So...the organisers should start sectioning off ares in front of the stage for various groups of people? They should ban people in groups of 4 or more? They should do a survey of ALL attendees beforehand to make sure that they choose a band per person so that everyone's happy? They should step up police presence to catch all drugs? They should ban more than one drink per person to stop people having too much?
I'm sorry, but doesn't this go against everything that makes a good festival in the end?
Maybe you should go back to seeing bands in theaters with no atmosphere and numbered seats? Just a thought?

oo touchy.
Maybe you need to go and have a spliff to calm down

I'm just passionate about Womad, as i enjoy it so much each year, and i hate to see everyone getting negative. When i looked around the site all weekend there were people with smiles on their faces - people seemed to be enjoying themselves. And so it's always weird to come back and read about peoples grievances!
Sorry NibNob - I just don't want to see Womad turn into something it shouldn't be!

Pleae don't bother with WOMAD any more - its too easy-going and fun for you.

I know and appreciate your view pink_weirdo. But this is a constructive feedback thread so as well as there being views on how well it went, there are conversely areas for improvement.
"pleasant or reasonable" Prue. I think we should agree to differ as I would call sycophantish behaviour neither of those two. And yes relating to my other thread, I did indeed see a VERY small baby at the festival with its mother... not wearing ear defenders and being paraded and swung about like a toy - great parenting. So well done.
"Easy going and fun". Again we'll agree to differ there on definition. Assuming Im actually allowed my opinion.

I have loved Womad since my first visit in 2000 and have always said that it is the best week-end of the year. I have shed tears of both joy and sadness many times. Joy when the music makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up and sadness when it is all over for another long year. I even wanted to get married at Womad a few years back!
I only made it for one day this year for various reasons and did post when I came back that I felt a little disillusioned because of the way the festival is changing, but.........I cannot bear the thought of not being there next year!
I shall therefore be following the countdown and relishing the excitement in the run up to July 2012.
I am sure that the organisers will be following the forum posts and will take note of negative feedback on the sound quality (it was painfully loud at times) etc. and will ensure that next year is memorable for all the right reasons.
Long live the Womad spirit!

Is it NibNob or just Nob? Let's settle for Nob, it's easier. It's sounds like you don't like Womad. No problem, just don't go. Problem solved.

Thats incredibly witty of you. Good of you to join in with your level of comment.
At the risk of repeating myself for the n'th time - i have been a womadder for quite number of years and have spotted the quality of acts decreasing.
