Womad

WOMAD returns to Taranaki from 13-15 March 2009 for an exhilarating weekend of rhythms, sights and sounds in the lush surroundings of Brooklands Park & TSB Bowl in New Plymouth. Get ready for a whirlwind trip around the world and discover performances from so many artists!

It's not just the music that takes you on a magical journey. Captivating workshops for adults and children allow you to explore WOMAD's diverse mix of artist performances; a stroll through the Global Village offers fantastic fare and great shopping; you can re-energise with tempting tastes from other lands in Taste The World or spend time in the Kidzone with the family. Most of all relax, unwind and soak up the family-friendly, relaxed vibe that is unique to WOMAD in Taranaki.

Workshops

Discover yourself! Take part in a workshop with many of the weekend's performers, explore your vocal range, dance to a different beat or meet and be inspired by an artist.

Taste The World

Bring all five of your senses to these sessions as artists put down their instruments and pick up cooking pots and ladles. Enjoy being entertained by anecdotes, tales, tastes, smells and music from their home countries all in one session.

Global Village

The Global Village is your chance to shop around the world. At the heart of the festival the Global Village is made up of more than 80 stalls trading a vast range of international food, beverages, arts and crafts.

Sustainable Village

A new feature at the festival is the Sustainable Village. Located in the Kunming Garden this area will showcase methods and products that support sustainable practices and lifestyles.

Kidzone

WOMAD is a family-friendly festival and your kids will love our full programme of activities for lively young minds aged 5 to 12, all held within the wondrous surrounds of Brooklands Zoo. There are creative activities and lots of fun to be had in Kidzone.

Kidzone activities are held in a colourful, creative and safe environment. With hundreds of kids coming through the zone during the festival, children do need to be accompanied by an adult and Kidzone does not function as a creche.

Please Note:

Although it is unlikely that the event will be cancelled, or change dates or location, please note that WOMAD will not be responsible for refunding travel or accommodation costs should this occur. Please ensure you have travel insurance to cover you in these circumstances.
