WOMAD New Zealand 2012 16-18 March 2012
Brooklands & TSB Bowl, New Plymouth is gorgeous parkland at the heart of Taranaki, New Zealand- a lake mirroring its leafy surroundings, trees cascading green offer delicious shade and little nooks and crannies to explore. We are so lucky to say that this luscious scene is also home to WOMAD New Zealand and 2012 will be more beautiful and better than ever!
WOMAD is not just about the excellent music. There are so many more exciting elements on offer:
Taste the World
Being able to experience cultures from around the globe is what WOMAD is all about. At WOMAD some of our musical and artistic guests will be creating their favourite dishes from their homelands on the Nova Energy Taste the World stage. Grab some refreshments from the adjacent WOBAR and put your feet up and enjoy some impromptu entertainement and culinary creations from around the world.
All Star Gala
The All Star Gala will entertain and amaze you as many of the festival's performers come together on the main stage on Sunday night.
Artists in Conversation
This programme offers a unique opportunity to learn more about some of the artists as they share their history and musical journeys.
We've compiled a basic checklist of the things that you should bring with you to WOMAD.
Enjoy a selection of evening films under the stars. Films are usually about one-hour long. Stay tuned for this year programme.
The Global Village is packed with art, craft and food from around the globe. More than 80 stalls trading quality products bring the world's markets to New Zealand.
When you want to chill out, and relax, and enjoy great food and wines head to this area! Step through the Moon Gate and discover Nova Energy's Taste the World cooking programme, the Sustainable Village, and the WOBAR.
Paepae is a place to welcome our visitors from near and far. It's a place to meet, and mix, with representatives from tribes from around Mt. Taranaki and hear our stories.
Seniors viewing platforms
Thanks to the TSB Bank WOMAD New Zealand provides seniors (over 65 years) viewing platforms at the three main stages. Our research shows there are loyal seniors who come to WOMAD so the festival team and the TSB Bank have come up with a way to make their festival experience easier and more enjoyable. Seniors will be able to access elevated viewing platforms at the three main stages. Thanks TSB Bank - we know the seniors really benefit from your support.
This village showcases sustainable products and concepts that you can embrace in your every day life.
The stunning Brooklands Park & the TSB Bowl of Brooklands in New Plymouth, Taranaki, has gained a reputation as one of the most beautiful outdoor venues in the world and is again home to WOMAD 2012. Camping is available on-site.
The WOMAD store is full of WOMAD merchandise. Grab yourself a souvenir t-shirt or your favourite artists CD - you can even get it signed if you want by them at the CD signings that are scheduled. Check out the blackboard about who will be signing and when.
There's something for everyone in the WOMAD store the only difficulty is deciding which souvenir you will take home with you.
You can take part in a workshop with some of the performers… explore your vocal range, dance to a different beat, or meet and be inspired by an artist. Workshop details will be released closer to the festival.
Zero Waste is a powerful concept that challenges old ways of thinking and inspires new attitudes and behaviour. It is a multi-faceted approach, integrating the four R's of waste minimisation (reduce, reuse, recycle and rethink), to conserve the Earth's limited resources.
