Zohar have installed their pitch in that exciting no-man’s land where the music of Jewish cantors, Arab muezzins and Byzantine chants meets the beats and textures of modern club culture. Their approach is resolutely experimental and uncompromising with an instinctive field for lush cinematic arrangements and intelligent jazzical melodies.Led by writer producer Erran Baron Cohen and bassist co-producer Andy Kremer Zohar have already picked up a dedicated international body of fans through their regular appearances at the trendy Momo’s Moroccan eaterie in central London and other firing club nights like Megatripolis, Whirl-y-Gig and Heaven.They have contributed music to a forthcoming Burt Reynolds film, to numerous compilations and other film scores. A new album entitled "One Three Seven" is supposed to be out soon on the Wicklow label via BMG but record company politics have delayed its release….not for long we can only hope!WOMAD July 2000
