Wu Man

Having introduced Western ears to the pipa, a beautiful Chinese wind instrument, US-based, Chinese-born musician Wu Man has collaborated on projects that give this ancient instrument fresh flight in contemporary music.

Wu Man studied at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, becoming the first recipient of a master's degree in pipa, and stands as a respected expert on the history and preservation of Chinese musical traditions. However, her adventurous musical spirit has led her to compose a large catalogue original contemporary compositions and engage in multi-cultural collaborations - from performing as soloist with many of the world's major orchestras to being a principal member of Yo-Yo Ma's innovative Silk Road Project and often performing with Kronos Quartet, their most recent project being the multimedia work A Chinese Home.
