(NZ)Pulling together some of Wellington’s favourite musicians and commanding the four-string like you’ve never heard it before, the Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra’s merry strummers have become a sell-out outfit. Their live show features sing-a-long favourites, blazing solos, stunning dress sense, sparkling harmonies and comic banter. They faithfully reproduce hit songs from across the musical spectrum including The White Stripes, Neil Young, David Bowie, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Leonard Cohen, Split Enz, DD Smash and more! The Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra played its first gig as a sextet in December 2005. Word spread, and over the summer of 2005-2006, as more random Wellingtonians were unmasked as ukulele players, the band doubled to its current quota of 12.The WIUO has rocked rock venues, outdoor concerts and vineyards, and they've also been known to rock libraries, museums, and art galleries.
