Anarchy in the ukulele…
They say that in London town, you're never more than six feet away from a sewer rat. Well, on any festival site (and this one's no exception), you're always within equally close proximity to someone strumming a ukulele. Quite often it'll be wielded by an amateur who, however keen, knows less chords than he or she has fingers on one hand. Give praise to your deity of choice then if this weekend you find yourself within earshot of the massed strings of the mighty Ukulele Orchestra Of Great Britain. Predating the uke's current vogue by at least a couple of decades, the long-established, eight-strong ensemble treat popular songs of the day to a glorious, deftly strummed makeover. With their four-stringed re-rubs of tunes like Dy-Na-Mi-Tee, Shaft and Smells Like Teen Spirit, we guarantee that very few things at Charlton Park will give you so much pleasure. It's smile o'clock!
