From United Kingdom

The history lesson in folk music form
Seth Lakeman's music sounds just how he looks - muscular, rough-hewn and with plenty of dirt under the fingernails. For the last few years, he's been presented as folk's poster boy, the music's Sunday supplement-friendly ambassador. Indeed, despite being the youngest of Devon's three impossibly talented Lakeman brothers, he's the one who's made the most significant imprint beyond their home county. Now free from the major label contract that produced his last three albums, the unshackled Seth is back where he was when his record Kitty Jay - cut in his brother's kitchen for 300 quid - turned the heads and won the hearts of the Mercury Music Prize people. This is shown by his newest offering, Tales From The Barrelhouse, a record that finds him again telling it like it is - this is raw, unsanitised folk music, underpinned by gripping stories and social commentary from in and around his native Dartmoor.
