Raghunath Manet

From India

2000 Biography:Raghunath Manet is one of today’s leading male stars of classical Indian dance. He is probably the only Indian artist performing at this level in both music (he plays the veena – the classical instrument of southern India) and dance (bharata natyam). He has toured the world for ten years, and has been awarded scholarships, fellowships and several titles for his outstanding services to Indian art. He also has a string of CD releases to his name. The American press said of Manet: "He has the grace of a panther, the refinement of the late ballet legend Rudolph Nureyev and dances with the vitality of a young colt". The Hindustan Times in India reviewed one of his performances thus: "Creation of a Male God… What a dance he performed for us! … when he folded the leg across the thigh ever so neatly and subtly, in Nataraja pose or spun out different adavus with the beauty and grace of a temple sculpture come alive". This is a rare opportunity to witness a sublime fusion of music and dance.
