When it comes to bettering life on this planet, many musicians talk the talk but don't come remotely close to walking the walking. Ozomatli can't be accused of such a lily-livered commitment. This 14-legged groove machine from Los Angeles has long been involved in grass-roots activism, playing political rallies and benefit shows by the dozen. With their house-wrecking sound that nails together salsa, hip-hop, rock and samba, they nourish brains and limbs with equal gusto. An Ozomatli show is like no other you'll have ever witnessed. Their hometown's elders seem to have woken up to the cultural whirlwind on their doorstep too, recently declaring Ozomatli Day across Los Angeles' city limits. "We're starting to realize just how big of a voice we actually have as a band," explains bassist Wil-Dog Abers, "and how important it is for us to use it." Here the party meets the political.
