Thembisa-born innovative composer and virtuoso keyboardist, Moses Taiwa Molelekwa has quickly earned the reputation as one of South Africa’s finest musicians. Having paid his dues as Hugh Masekela’s jazz apprentice, Molelekwa released his debut album, Finding One’s Self in 1994 and since then has won two FNB SAMA awards for the best traditional jazz performance and best contemporary jazz performance and the acclaim of many, including veteran producer, Pops Mohamed, who considers Molelekwa to be one of the most exciting players to have emerged from the country in recent years: "He can play any which way, and still do it his way. It was a great experience working with him and there's a lot more to come." Molelekwa’s latest album, Genes and Spirits is an expansion of his musical horizons so far with contrasts and surprises.
