Slide guitar to die for" Ashwyn Smythh, Rocking the Blues Festival.Moon Dogs were formed in London in 1999 and soon established themselves as a popular live group. Their influences included Jimi Hendrix, T-Bone Walker, Freddie King, The Fun Lovin Criminals. They managed to find success with their mix of originals and covers of classic R&B and Rock & Roll tunes. Moon Dogs were chosen to play alongside Nine Below Zero at Rocking the Blues Festival in Tring this year. And have acquired a cult status throughout Europe where they have tour dates later this year. The line-up for WOMAD is Eddie Masters on bass, Bob Henrit on drums, Chris Leon on keys and Derik Timms on guitar/slide & vocal.Moon Dogs album "The Blues'll Get You" was to be produced by top English producer Gus Dudgeon (Rolling Stones, the Zombies, John Mayall, the Small Faces, Them. Ten Years After's Chris Rea, Elton John and the Bonzo Dog Band, among many others.) who played a significant part in guiding the sound of Moon Dogs through the early production stage. It took the guys a while to recover from his untimely death in 2002 .Two years later the CD (MCM CD131) is complete and now available from www.marketsquarerecords.co.uk or moondogs.co.uk. Lead guitarist Derik Timms wrote most tracks. Despite their capability to write excellent original material, Moon Dogs have never been afraid to experiment with cover versions, making the tracks their own. Midnight Rider and Baby please don't go are shining examples of the band’s ability to pick up songs and make them into energy-fuelled R&B while still paying respect to the original. Moon Dogs often excel other bands who play "traditional" Rock & Roll, simply because the band is able to give their songs and performance that extra something. They provide an unmistakable R&B drive.
