Loop Guru are hard to categorise. Global dub foundations are present, but what keeps this outfit ahead of the programmers is that they do not feel constrained by this substructure. It's atmosphere music, capturing the delight of a spring breeze, the sombre swell of a moody ocean, the joy of unforeseen success - and it develops the themes in full, rather than being content with a tantalising snatch. Loop Guru pick up your emotion, amplify it and beam it back at you. After an exploratory trip to the USA, where they went down a storm with both reviewers and audiences, the future looks increasingly rosy. The recent addition of live percussion for their gigs has given their sound a more dancey edge which is likely to feature on the album scheduled to be released in the spring of '97.
