From Palestine

Triple helping of fast-fingered oud mastery

“We have two battles to fight. The first is for our career. The other is for peace in Palestine and the end of the occupation.”
So says Samir Joubran, the eldest of the three Nazareth-born brothers collectively - and perhaps unsurprisingly - known as Le Trio Joubran. Each brother has chosen the same musical path - they all pluck and strum that totem instrument of the Arab world, the oud. Aided by their regular percussionist, the siblings play with both neat discipline and wild abandon, at turns contemplative and passionate. And their technical prowess is extraordinary, a collective skill clearly handed along the branches of the family tree (they represent the fourth Joubran generation to play the oud professionally). Indeed, so natural is their connection with their instruments that when they take to the stage clasping their ouds, they believe that there are in fact six brothers performing. Prepare to be dazzled.
