For more than 30 years, San Francisco's Kronos Quartet - with David Harrington and John Sherba on violins, Hank Dutt on viola and Jeffrey Zeigler on cello - have redefined the contemporary incarnation of a string quartet.

Having commissioned more than 700 works and arrangements for string quartet and released more than 45 recordings of extraordinary breadth and creativity, Kronos represent a shinning standard for musical innovation - with one of their pivotal works being Sun Rings. Commissioned by NASA in 2002 and written by esteemed minimalist composer Terry Riley specifically for Kronos, this evening-long multimedia piece incorporating sound recordings from deep space, choir and stunning visuals and will be revived by Kronos for a special performance at WOMAD EARTHSTATION.
