Joji Hirota

Japanese percussionist, composer and teacher Joji Hirota is a veteran of WOMAD festivals, and his strikingly physical, graceful and dramatic style has thrilled audiences down the years. Joji plays the Japanese temple drums with amazing athleticism and rigorous precision, and each performance has a drama all of its own – gentle and slow to start, then building to a crecendo of drums and cymbals, before dropping back to a serene and graceful conclusion.
