Jaune Toujours

From Belgium

If your idea of musical transcendentalism is imagining Les Négresses Vertes in the clothes of a ska-playing East European gypsy band, then prepare yourself for the odd out-of-body moment this weekend. Why? Because of a bunch of young chaps from Brussels, that’s why. Answering to the collective name of Jaune Toujours, their massed accordions and horns make a delightful, mixed-up racket, stylistically touching down several places between Kingston and Krakow. Such a mongrel sound has made them favourites of that man Kershaw who’s praised their amalgam of “a punk attitude with an international hunger to present different styles from all over the world on their plate”. Live, they’re absolutely dynamite and, once they’ve left the stage this weekend and those out-of-body moments have subsided, you’ll be forced to pick up a copy of cluB, their recent live album, to relive the scintillating experience all over again.
