Elbow's chums have waited long enough
Not everyone can be an overnight sensation. Success can also come to those who wait, who pay their dues, who play the long game. That's the destiny now embracing I Am Kloot, the Manchester three-piece placing their size nines in the footsteps of fellow lengthy servers like their good pals Elbow (I Am Kloot's last album Sky At Night was actually produced by Elbow's Guy Garvey and Craig Potter). The similarities don't end there. As well as finding champions within the Mercury Prize judging panel, both bands deal with the more prosaic side of life, locating the universal truth in the mundane detail. It's just that while Elbow's sound has become increasingly widescreen, I Am Kloot keep things decidedly smaller in scale, at ease with playing what their singer John Bramwell describes as "songs about drinking and disaster". Five albums and 12 years in, the world is finally ready to hear them.
