Jorma Kaukonen says that their band name should act as a warning to other young musicians.

‘You’ve got to be really careful when you pick a band name because if your lucky and stick around, you’ll be an aging guy with a really silly band name’.

We’ll leave you to look at their website to find out how the name came about, and although the name may be silly, the music certainly isn’t.

Jack Casaday and Jorma Kaukonen began playing together as kids growing up in Washington DC and in 1965, joined Jefferson Airplane. The band had hits with ‘Somebody To Love’ and ‘White Rabbit’ and provided the soundtrack to the Summer of Love.

But, Jorma and Jack remained faithful to the blues, jazz and folk influences of the smaller clubs and venues they used to play and would perform as ‘Hot Tuna’ between Airplane gigs. By the time, Jefferson split, 'Hot Tuna' had set up a loyal folllowing and were known for playing it loud and long with 3 to 6 hour sets.

Since then they’'ve been creating their trademark laid-back Delta blues sound for over 30 years and are justly revered by the baby-boomer generation and well beyond.

We can’t promise you a 6 hour set but you’ll be blown away by their playing and their enthusiasm for the music.
