The Indonesian percussion orchestra from Wellington's Victoria University has been presenting the traditional music of central Java to New Zealanders for 25 years. Leading the 'gamelan' is Budi Putra, accomplished musician from Central Java and Jack Body, a foremost local composer. Joko Susilo, puppeteer or 'dalang', brings a wonderful display of storytelling, manipulating each puppet, speaking for it and directing the music to bring us legendary battles, heroes, heroines and clowns.Together, the magic of the shadows and dynamism of the ever-changing musical moods, will create an unforgettable experience.
