Francis Angol hails from the Dominican Republic and has worked in dance for over fifteen years. This performer, tutor, Assistant Artistic Director/Choreographer for Badejo Arts, was also responsible for the running of its education programme.At present Francis holds the position of Director of Adult Dance and tutor at Islington Arts Factory and runs his own contemporary African dance company “movement angol”. A committed and devoted advocate of African dance, Francis teaches and develops work that pushes forward the frontiers of African dance choreography in Britain.His main focus is that of developing his own unique choreographic language. A language that best reflects his distinctive approach of working with African dance forms.As a choreographer, his work is distinctive and pulls together the techniques, styles and nuances of four main West African dance forms namely Nigerian, Ghanaian, Senegalese and South African dance. Using these forms as the basis for movement development and artistic expression, he draws upon other dance forms which have influenced his unique mode of expression, in particular western Contemporary and Caribbean dance.Francis has developed a unique movement signature that reflects his creativity and choreographic abilities. Through his work you can clearly see his artistic command of the utilisation of rhythm and movement.
