When Cajun met indie-rock

"It's one of the most beautifully melodic records I've heard all year. There's an artistry to it that enables them to step out from time and place and tradition." When someone of such unerringly fine musical judgment as Elvis Costello says such sweet things about your record, you know you've created something more than halfway decent. So hearty backslaps all round to the recipients of Mr C's praise - the new-generation Cajun outfit Feufollet. This young five-piece are perfectly capable of playing the standards in the way the old masters have been reciting them for decades and decades - all wheezing accordions and sawing fiddles. But sometimes they also add a twist or three of indie-rock, the results sounding not unlike the Velvet Underground taking a sabbatical in deepest Louisiana. With Feufollet are the next curators of the swamplands sound, the times, if not radically changing, are shifting a little. This is Cajun music 2.0.
