Doreen Thobekile

From South Africa

An accomplished singer, dancer and instrumentalist, Doreen was born in Natal but grew up in Durban, South Africa. She came to England in 1971and was lead singer in the South African spectacular ‘Ipi Tombi’. Together with fellow South African artist Julia Mapthungwa she was a founder member of the fabulous Zulu women’s dance group ‘Shikisha’ A multi-talented performer and cultural educator she has lead workshops for students of all ages throughout the UK. As a singer, dancer and instrumentalist Doreen’s charisma and talent has been an integral part of the development of the fusion band Transglobal Underground. In 2005 she produced a solo album entitled ‘London Zulu’.
