Blazer-wearing pre-war blues throwback
CW Stoneking is a brother from another planet. Or another time zone, at least. And, from both his dress sense and his music, that time is surely located during the first couple of decades of last century. A banjo-clutching, bow-tie-wearing, Brylcreem-applying Australian, CW plays what he calls "jungle music", a delightful tangle of pre-war blues, calypso and trad jazz that's both eerie and seductive all at once. Backed by his Primitive Horn Orchestra, at the heart of things is CW's delivery, his weather-beaten voice sounding like some dusty old 78. He also tells some (possibly tall) tales about his travels - a life that's seen him spending plenty of time in Port of Spain, Trinidad and working as a witch-doctor's assistant in New Orleans. Everything - and possibly a little bit more - goes into the songs. "I want my songs to have humour, heartbreak and all the elements that make up life."
