It's all over the front page
Since she emerged as the flag-toting queen of Cool Cymru in the mid-90s, Cerys Matthews' post-Catatonia life has been anything but dull - in the wake of the band's stadium-filling success, a series of well-received solo records followed, interspersed with moving to Nashville, becoming a mother (three times over), making a surprising turn on I'm A Celebrity
, presenting several documentaries for Radio 4 and being signed up to the roster of glorious 6Music. This varied lifestyle seems to have brought a clear contentment after Catatonia's crazy times, a mellowness that's all-apparent on recent releases like last year's Don't Look Down. That was a record that had the man from The Times declaring Cerys to still be the ruler of the Welsh songstress roost, despite those pretenders to her crown who've emerged in recent times. He proclaimed that Cerys' voice still contains "everything - nuance, understanding, authenticity - her compatriot Duffy so signally lacks". Ouch.
