Breabach

From Scotland

Scottish trad at its sharpest

Sure as eggs is eggs and boys will be boys, Scottish youngsters with even a passing interest in traditional music will be drawn to reach for the totem instruments of their nation - the fiddle, the accordion and the bagpipes. It will always be thus. The tradition will just keep rolling along, the circle will remain unbroken. The quintet Breabach are proud upholders of these ways, a dynamic combo whose fiery playing is matched by their alertness for a peachy tune. For the past seven years, they've risen through the ranks of Scottish traditional music, earning nominations at award ceremonies all over the joint, including the BBC2 Folk Awards. With their fiddle and double bagpipe attack, their tunes - a collection of self-penned creations and more established material - circle, swoop and soar, while the neat grooves laid down by guitar and double bass provide the gravity. Come fly with them.
