There's something going on in Brighton at the moment, with wave after wave of musical innovation seems to be pounding its pebbled shoreline. The Go! Team, Quantic, Alice Russell, Bonobo…

No, the latter's not a cheeky chimpanzee playing a banjo on Palace Pier, but a young chap (known to his mum as Simon Green) who's developed a fine ear for meaty beats and get-under-your-skin melodies. Having supplied albums for a couple of the UK's supremely hip labels (Tru Thoughts and NinjaTune), he's also developed a stonking live band that he's since taken to Russia and back. Tonight finds the man in DJ mode for a set that, while probably home to a decent handful of his own self-made tunes, will cast its net wide for a bountiful catch of hip-hop, tough jazz, Latin, funk, soul and broken beat. And, like his good chum Mr Scruff, it's all done without a single act of preciousness. After all, this is a man who called his 2003 album Dial M For Monkey. This is your hotline to the jungle. Answer it.
