Badejo Arts

From Nigeria

Biography 2001:Formed in London in 1990, Badejo Arts have made their name with a blend of traditional Nigerian and British contemporary dance. Early productions such as Ebo Iye (Transitions) and The Living Circle were an exciting mix of African movement and modern form and, under the guidance of Peter Badejo, the company has toured throughout the UK and collaborated with Paris-based Koffi Koko. Badejo’s annual summer school, Bami Jo, provides intensive training for both professionals and students in a range of styles, and this year’s Bami Jo tutors come from as far afield as Madagascar, South Africa, Congo, Nigeria and Togo.Biography by Campbell Stevenson, July 2001Short biography 2001:Founded in 1990 by Nigeria's most exciting choreographer and performance artist, Peter Badejo and his contemporary dancers make a welcome return to the WOMAD stage in 2001. Their production, Emi Ijo, means heart of dance and draws allusively upon Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness, presenting ideas of cultural migration and the artistic gift of Africa to the World.May 2001
