From Colombia
Biography taken from official website www.aterciopelados.com, March 2004:The group was born in 1990, when Hector Buitrago and Andrea Echeverry created Delia y los aminoacidos (Delia and the amino acids). After a couple of years playing at bars in Bogota, they changed their name for Aterciopelados, and in 1993 they launch Con el corazon en la mano (the heart in the hand), their first album. Low-budgeted and full of Latin rhythms and coarse punk influence, it was successful nationwide, and so led to El dorado (1994), a bit more of a pop-fusion album, which took a major role in their international success. The touring around Latin America starts at this time. Then they go to Spain to accompany Heroes del Silencio, and in the US they share the stage with Soda Stereo, who invited them to their MTV unplugged. The pipe of peace (1996) was produced by Phil Manzanera and recorded in England. It confirms their quest for the Latin fusion. They are Grammy nominees (best Latin alternative rock group). They have their MTV Unplugged. Atomic Caribbean (1998) is produced by Andres Levin in NY, and gets the same nomination. In 2000 comes Powerful Enjoyment, produced by Hector Buitrago in Bogota.
